Disunited Jukebox – A 21st Century Opera

By Company Carpi

(Part of Warrington Arts Festival)

Angry, serious, comic, inquisitive, personal and emotional…

Disunited Jukebox is a brand new opera about the bewildering state of the modern world, created by composer Gary Lloyd & choreographer Bettina Carpi.

Highly celebrated writers Mary Talbot, Neil Gaiman, Brian Catling and many others have created the specially written libretto for the opera, alongside new writing talent such as Marissa Landy and community and youth input from Warrington Youth Zone, and even a NASA astronaut.

Disunited Jukebox spans diverse topics from artificial intelligence, nature & climate, witchcraft, political landscape, neuroscience, refugee crises, technological progresses, our hopes & fears for the future… to mental health & conspiracy theories.

Opera singers Naomi Rogers, Olivia Carrell, Isabelle Mohan & Luca Wetherall, plus a special guest tenor, are joined by an ensemble of incredible musicians drawn from the very best orchestras in the UK including the Hallé Orchestra & BBC Symphony Orchestra, and by the stunning contemporary dancers Erin Pollitt, Sarah Bateman & Rachel Li plus youth & community dance groups, for this explosive performance.

The full list of libretto writers also includes:

Gary Carpenter, Nikky Smedley, Ian Carney, Dani Abulhawa, Claire Henderson Davis, Michelle Hodgson, Dr Jess Duckworth, Roger Gray and others…

  • There will be an access table, with ear defenders and ear plugs, sunglasses, gadget spinners, and snacks.
  • There will be a free-sheet (programme) offering context to the performance, and songs available in various formats. For access information about Parr Hall, the venue Disunited Jukebox takes place at please see https://www.warringtonartsfestival.org/accessibility-guide
